Yes. The ismartgate requires an internet connection to be able to use all the features. 

Nevertheless, you can configure it to be accessible without internet, using the Access Point mode. This option would be selected on the initial set up and can not switch from Wi-Fi to access point mode automatically. When the device is in access point mode the remote access, users and 3rd party apps can NOT be used.
